Students had the opportunity to meet each other, to work on transnational teams, to learn how to live sustainable by enjoying the nature and the friendship.
Monday 19th of February 2024The first thing we did on Monday morning was to enjoy a presentation, made by a Greek student, about last year’s project named “Our green habits”. Afterwards, all the students were separated into 10 teams of four and each team was asked to think of habits that would help us follow a greener lifestyle. Then, every team presented their ideas and we moved on to the second activity. For this activity each team was given a raw egg, and the goal was to find a way to protect the egg from cracking when thrown on the ground, using only certain recyclable items or things collected from the nature. After that, we visited Haravgi, a village of the Municipality of Messini, where we baked pizzas in a traditional wood oven. We also made cookies and then we visited the Castle of Captains, which is a tower on top of a hill in the village of Haravgi, and we admired the breathtaking view. Before arriving back to the school, we stopped off at the beach and, after carrying out eggs with us throughout the whole trip, we tasted them and announced the winners whose eggs did not crack after being dropped on the rocks. While we were at the beach, we tasted the cookies we had baked and took some group pictures! Then, it was time for us to head back.

Tuesday 20th of FebruaryOn Tuesday, we started the day by presenting the Greek alphabet to the Italian and Polish students and teachers. After all the Greeks read the alphabet out loud and introduced each letter, the people from the other countries attempted to find which letter is which. Then, Ms. Joanna Ravani from KEPEA, came to our school and did a few activities with us related to F.O.M.O.. Firstly, she talked about the negative impact mobile phones have had on peoples’ lives, how it can really affect us if we are always on our phones and how pointless it is to worry about social media and posts we see online, since the the absolute truth is rarely shown. After that, we went outside and played two games to see how well we know each other. For the first one, we were split into two teams and all we had to do was try to remember our opponents’ names. Whoever said the other’s name first was the winner. As for the second game, we were asked some questions to which we all had to answer truthfully to with yes or no. When we went back inside, Ms. Joanna taught us about FOMO (fear of missing out) and we also took a quiz to see if we have some type of it, as she said there are different kinds of FOMO. Finally, to make sure everyone understood the meaning of FOMO, we were asked to make some theatrical plays about it. Afterwards, we visited the town hall where the deputy mayor talked about our city, Kalamata, and showed us a presentation. In the afternoon, we danced Greek, Italian and Polish traditional dances. We all learned new dances and everyone had so much fun!

Wednesday 21st of February - A rainy day in Ancient Olympia
Thursday 22nd of February - Live sustainably - Let's sing together
The first activity we did at school on Thursday, was called “Sustainable Cities”. To do this activity, we all had to know what ‘sustainability’ means, so before we started, we watched an interesting video that explained this word using examples and pictures. In this activity we had to work in teams of 5 and each person on the team was assigned a role. For every role there were different rules that had to be strictly followed, so we were then given a paper with all the instructions and the rules, as well as a big paper on which we had to draw our very own sustainable city. We were also given certain materials to help us create the city. When we were finished drawing, every team presented their city and explained why they created it this way and why it was a sustainable one. After that, we played a game for which we, the Greeks, had previously written out different phrases in Greek and English and the kids from the other countries had to match the phrases with their meaning. A bit later, we walked to ‘Hakuna Matata’, where we sang songs from Greece, Italy and Poland. Everyone tried to sing the songs, even if they were in a language they did not know. Surprisingly, the outcome was not so bad after all! Then, we walked back to school and left.

Friday 23rd of February 2024 - Day trip to Nafplio
|
On Friday, we went on a trip to Nafplio, a coastal city located in the Peloponnese in Greece, which is the capital of the regional unit of Argolis and an important touristic destination. Being one of the most beautiful towns in Argolis, there were many places we had to go see. When we got there, the first thing we did was visit the Palamidi castle which has played a significant role in various conflicts and battles throughout history. We climbed all 857 stairs and made it to the top! We admired the view, toured around for some time and then we took the bus to go back down. Afterwards, we got on a small boat that took us to the small island of Bourtzi, popular for its strong, impressive fortress. The Bourtzi Castle, located in the middle of the harbor of Nafplio was a very interesting sight and we had lots of fun exploring it! When the boat took us back, we had about 1 hour and 30 minutes to explore the rest of Nafplio, so we went to different small shops, we got souvenirs, and we walked around at square of Nafplio. Before leaving, we also took many pictures.

Saturday 24th of February 2024 - Exploring the Messinian castles & closing ceremony
In the morning, we went to the Castle of Methoni. There, we admired the view and then we walked on a little bridge which led us to a small castle that was in the sea. After exploring around for a while, we went to see a church that was there and afterwards we took some group photos. Later, we visited Pylos Castle, where we took some group pictures as well, and walked around for a bit. Then, we returned home, but since this was going to be our last day together, we had to have a goodbye party. Therefore, in the afternoon, we all gathered at the school, and we had a party. The principal of our school talked for a while and then gave a paper for participation in this Erasmus program to the Italians and the Polishes. We took some pictures of them and then the party began. We put on loud music, we listened to not only English, but also Greek, Italian and Polish songs, we danced, and later we did karaoke, too. Some students performed small dances they had been practicing and then we all went outside and released lanterns in the air! We said our goodbyes and, sadly, in was time for us to leave.
